Day 1 in Austin. Gastrodamus and I arrive, get swept up in Deltacookie’s Prius-carriage-of-cuteness, drop off our luggage and end up in Parkside on 6th Street. It was our first food spot in the city and it set the bar for the rest of our stops. This is definitely a place I’d hit up again for drinks and noms.
This was also the first time I’d ever had okra, and holy mother of wheat it was incredible. Then again, it was deep fried. Gastrodamus warned me it typically doesn’t taste that good.
Pop Up Cafe?!
So has anyone heard of these yet? Are there any in Miami?
My latest addiction: summer salad a la bombshell. Watermelon, lettuce, kalamata olives, avocado, feta cheese with a little bit of fig infused balsamic vinegar and olive oil. Sprinkle some freshly ground pepper too.
I also made an itty-bitty turkey sandwich with cheddar from The Cheese Course, some pineapple-jalapeno spread, champagne honey mustard, and avocado for extra indulgence.
Chocolate decadence we guzzled down last night was a dutch chocolate milkshake with vanilla vodka and frangelico. Gastrodamus had a mint chocolate chip version with added Bailey’s mint chocolate and mint liqueur.
A buzz with childhood nostalgia ;p
We came, we hungered, we cocoa-ODed. So this weekend was the BVSC chocolate event and we decided to mindf@$% you with this: Chocolate burger. Oh yes, that’s not a beef burger you see that’s a Ghiradelli double chocolate brownie “patty”, freshly baked croissant “bun,” mint “lettuce,” pomegranate Grand Marnier “ketchup,” pineapple “mustard,” and whipped cream “mayonnaise.” All homemade, all from the demented minds of Braised Bombshell and Gastrodamus.
Picked up my bi-weekly Annie’s Food Club today, so I had no choice but to get rid of my last share. What better way than tossing everything into one batch and have breakfast for dinner:)
Obviously BVSC is all about the food, but another reason we came together was our proximity (with the exception of Gastrodamus1 who lives on the beach, shhhh don’t tell him he’s been left out). So on my day off I took a stroll around the hood and took some pics for you all to get acquainted with the streets Deltacookie, Black Angus (post already!), Gastrodamus (secretly as he’s devoured by sheer non-proximity envy behind a red, velvet curtain off-stage), and I have come to adore. So I present to you all Midtown/Buena Vista.
